Moissanite: Anything else is a MoissaNot!

For sure you can buy "it" on EBay. That’s correct, folks you can now find just about anything – including product scams and ripoffs. This particular EBay scam involves dubious "merchants" who have emerged on EBay during the recent 2006 holiday season selling jewelry they call "simulated moissanite". Since they are not offering Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite, we’ve dubbed their jewelry -- "MoissaNot". Unfortunately these EBay merchants deceive would be "bargain hunters" and unwitting consumers, in order to cash in on the popularity of Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. Their major sales appeal is usually price over quality. However upon closer inspection we found their advertising claims to be deceptive, contradictory, and outright false. Here's one example:

One such MoissaNot Ebay seller gabriyel2000, makes the following outrageous advertising claims:

"I did some research, and indeed Charles and Colvard [is] not the only company who makes moissanites. However, they are the only ones who give certificates, hence their steep price. This is a synthetic (simulation) moissanite by Hamptons for Hollywood based in New York. I got this information from the seller of this ring. I believe this is a nice alternative to C&C moissanite since the stone has the same physical characteristics as their moissanites. The ring by itself is perfect and worn twice, it's just that I received it as a gift and decided not to keep it. Hope this helps."

There is additional drivel contained throughout his EBay listing. His claims are blatantly false. Charles & Colvard has patents in 28 countries and is the sole worldwide source of moissanite. Second, the seller's claim about the composition of the jewelry containing moissanite particulates from India contradicts another EBay seller who claims the jewels are sapphires bonded with cubic zirconia (CZ). Both claims are ridiculous. In addition, gabriyel2000 provides no product photos that would allow potential buyers to see for themselves whether his MoissaNot jewelry even comes close to resembling the superior fire, luster, and brilliance that is unique to a Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. Third, gabriyel2000 utilizes the jeweler Diamonds Nexus Labs in this scam, by referring to their false advertising as a source for his EBay ad. And here’s conclusive evidence that gabriyel2000 is trying to sell counterfeit moissanite jewelry. As a result of our strenuous research, we could not find any information about the item’s manufacturer “Hamptons for Hollywood”. They simply do not exist. We checked both Google and the Superpages.com directory for a New York City or national listing and it came up empty. We sent an email inquiry to gabriyel2000, asking him to provide us with the address and phone number for “Hamptons for Hollywood”. He has yet to respond to our request, despite his claims to provide prompt answers to questions.

Diamond Nexus Labs also runs deceptive online ads that target buyers in search of moissanite, in order to bait and switch customers into buying their cheap CZ simulants instead. They are also the same corrupt outfit that employed writer Tammy Powley of The Jewelry Weblog. Ms. Powley cites DNL as her source of research, in a series of malicious articles that disparage Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. Moissanite is fast becoming a hugely successful new category of fine jewelry with growing consumer demand. Consumer awareness also continues to increase, especially through online research methods. So it’s not too surprising to find these cunning new opportunists that come out of the woodwork to take advantage, by creating misinformation and outright product scams upon a public that is very motivated to acquire moissanite jewelry.
