International sales for the fourth quarter increased 31 percent to US$1.1 million, with strong results from all key geographic regions. Total shipments of 69,700 carats for the current period were 1 percent more than the 68,900 carats shipped in the same period of 2005. Shipments of carats in the U.S. decreased 1 percent while international shipments of carats increased 32 percent.

“Our sales increase was attributable to the additional number of doors that sold moissanite jewelry in the fourth quarter. We believe the strength of our overall sell-thru levels were negatively impacted as some of our leading department store chains and mall jewelry retailers increased prices of moissanite products which led to a slower number of product reorders in the fourth quarter. We continue to work aggressively to add new points of distribution and believe these efforts will result in continued improvement to our business. We added approximately 270 doors in the fourth quarter of 2006 primarily from Kohl’s, Zales Canada and Sears. We continue to work with our existing retailers and their moissanite jewelry suppliers to broaden the existing moissanite collection and offer more styles at appropriate price points to increase same store sales activity. In addition, we continue to develop promising sales opportunities within home television shopping. HSN, one of the leading home television shopping networks, has agreed to increase the total number of programming hours dedicated to moissanite sales to 25 hours in fiscal 2007 compared to 9 in the prior year. We continue to work methodically to raise the profile of moissanite and believe that our marketing efforts over the past year have continued to raise customer awareness. The company received the results of a recently completed third party study that highlights moissanite consumer awareness levels. We are pleased to report that over the past year, consumer awareness for moissanite within the U.S. increased from 7.8 percent at the end of 2005 to 10.5 percent at the end of 2006,” explains Bob Thomas, President and Chief Executive Officer.

“As we look to 2007, we expect to continue to make progress with current customers and to further expand our customer base. We continue to make improvements to our infrastructure and improve the quality of management to properly service and expand the number of manufacturers and points of retail distribution. We will continue to work ambitiously to build consumer awareness and demand for moissanite jewelry to drive sales within our multiple channels of distribution. Overall, we are committed to building value for our shareholders and believe our planned initiatives have better positioned our company for future growth,” concludes Thomas.
Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

Charles & Colvard 4Q Profit Rises

(AP) Charles & Colvard 4th-Quarter Earnings Climb 42 Percent As More Stores Sell Its Moissanite

Wednesday February 14, 4:55 pm ET
MORRISVILLE, N.C. is the free online encyclopedia often used by content writers as a source for a variety of topics. Wikipedia is open to participation for anyone who wants to contribute to the site. In this spirit of collaboration, information is compiled very efficiently and enables Wikipedia to construct a huge knowledge base. Because of Wikipedia’s free and open accessibility it is a very popular source of reference. On the other hand that very openness can be abused by participants with a biased agenda. Rather than be a steady source of reliable information, Wikipedia can easily become a propaganda tool. Such is the case with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite.

Moissanite is fast becoming the hottest fine jewel available today, but consumer awareness is still very small – only 8% awareness. With such intense competition and “special interests” always vying for a greater share of the tremendously profitable Jewelry Market, misinformation campaigns about moissanite have emerged within many venues.

When you begin a search by entering “moissanite” in Wikipedia’s homepage, you are not directed to definitions or articles specifically about moissanite. Instead Wikipedia redirects your “moissanite” search to a page for its mineral composition - Silicon Carbide (SiC). More rationally, Wikipedia does have article entries for “diamond” and “cubic zirconia” that do not redirect search inquiries to the gemstones’ respective chemical components of Carbon and Zirconium Dioxide. This is just the beginning of how Wikipedia short-changes the publics’ efforts with online research, in order to properly find information about moissanite.

When you reach the SiC page, you’ll find an article about moissanite’s origins in the Discovery section of the article. Edward Goodrich Acheson is attributed as the discoverer of SiC “around” 1893. According to this article, Acheson developed an electric batch furnace to produce an SiC abrasive he called “carborundum”. This account is followed by a "later" discovery of SiC in a subsection called "In Nature" by Dr. Ferdinand Henri Moissan. That account reads as follows:

Naturally occurring moissanite is extremely rare, as it is not formed naturally in any quantity within the Earth, and thus is found only in tiny quantities in certain types of meteorite and as microscopic traces in corundum deposits and kimberlite. Virtually all of the silicon carbide sold in the world, including moissanite jewels, is synthetic. Natural moissanite was first found in 1905 as a small component of a meteorite in Arizona by Dr. Ferdinand Henri Moissan, after whom the material is named in the gem market. Moissan's discovery of naturally occurring SiC was disputed at first because his sample may have been contaminated by silicon carbide saw blades that were already on the market at that time.
However by cross-referencing this account in the Wikipedia article on Dr. Moissan, you will find this information:

In 1893, [Dr.] Moissan began studying fragments of a meteorite found in Meteor Crater near Diablo Canyon in Arizona. In these fragments he discovered minute quantities of a new mineral and, after extensive research, Moissan concluded that this mineral was made of silicon carbide. In 1905, this mineral was named Moissanite, in his honor.

Clearly there is a discrepancy because Dr. Moissan could not have discovered Moissanite in both 1893 and 1905. Fortunately, Mr. Bob Thomas, the CEO of Charles & Colvard related the correct version of moissanite’s discovery in a recent company presentation. As was told in his presentation, moissanite was indeed discovered by Dr. Henri Moissan in 1893 and in 1905 the gem was named in his honor by Tiffany’s lead gemologist of that time.

The misinformation presented about moissanite in the Silicon Carbide article, is false and is presented in a manner that belittles moissanite jewelry. Listed below are several affronts to moissanite that are quoted from throughout the referenced article:

Moissanite is somewhat similar to diamond in several important ways: it is transparent and hard (9, although a patent states 9 1/4, on the Mohs scale compared to 10 for diamond).

Moissanite is somewhat harder than common cubic zirconia.

Unlike diamond, Moissanite is strongly birefringent. This is a desirable quality in some optical applications, but is not desirable in gemstones. For this reason, Moissanite jewels are cut along the optic axis of the crystal to minimize birefringent effects.

Moissanite has a slightly higher index of refraction (brilliance) and much greater dispersion (fire) than diamond.

[M]oissanite is easy to distinguish from diamond, as it is doubly refractive.

[Moissanite] has a slight green tint to it that becomes more noticeable with increasing gem sizes.

Notice how the use of the words “similar”, “slightly” and “somewhat” are deliberately chosen to obscure moissanite’s superior properties and capabilities, when it’s compared directly to diamond and other gemstones.
Moissanite is second in hardness to diamond on all hardness scales. The Mohs scale is perhaps the most useful of the hardness scales, since it measures a gemstone’s resistance to scratching. This is an issue of greater concern to jewelry buyers. The other scales measure the gem’s ability to withstand pressure. While this may be useful to the designers and manufacturers of fine jewelry, it is a non-issue to jewelry buyers unless they intend to use their rings and pendants as door stops and furniture mounts.

Moissanite birefringence or double refraction represents the ability of the jewel to disperse light. It is this very important characteristic that gives moissanite its superior fire that is 2½ times that of a diamond. Ironically diamonds are cut to maximize its fire. Diamonds that are cut to ideal specifications still don’t come close to yielding the fire of moissanite. Because moissanite possesses such overwhelming fire, it is cut to maximize its brilliance instead. It is the superior abundance of fire, luster, and brilliance above all other gemstones that makes Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite so highly desirable in fine jewelry.

Once again the slanderous “green with envy” claim is made in reference to the color of larger moissanite gem sizes. This smear is circulated to protect diamonds from moissanite’s high value proposition. Why buy a 3 caret “J” color “SI” diamond ring for $27,000.00, when you can buy a higher quality 3 caret moissanite ring of “H-I” color “VVS” clarity for as low as $1,800.00? (less than 1/10 the price of inferior graded diamonds).
Fortunately, moissanite’s advocates can take advantage of Wikipedia’s openness and correct the misinformation on their web site. In addition, advocates should submit or petition Wikipedia for a separate article entry for moissanite. Moissanite has a different origin, history, and composition than does the other form of SiC discovered by Mr. Acheson during a similar timeframe. This is an opportunity for advocates to assist others who are interested in learning the truth about moissanite, and to offer a definitive reference to this popular research tool.

Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

Moi Moi Moissanite

Moi Moi Fine Jewellery is located in The quaint and high traffic Queen Victoria Building Mall in downtown Sydney, Australia. Their boutique store offers very high-end and unique designer collections of Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite, jewelry that will take your breath away.

Beginning in 2004, they where the first retailer in Australia to offer Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. The owners are two young sisters Lauren Chang, 27 and Alana Chang, 25, who have built a very successful independent jewelry business from their own model of smart marketing, consumer education, local media and celebrity relations efforts, and simply some of the most exquisite jewelry designs to be found anywhere in the world.

What makes Moi Moi so unique among independents, is that they only offer moissanite jewelry. They also had the foresight and business savvy to negotiate with Charles & Colvard for the rights to being the exclusive moissanite distributor for both Australia and New Zealand.

Moi Moi has succeeded at both introducing and selling moissanite, as a result of their consistent abilities to execute effective marketing strategies in a faraway country that overflows with it's own native Fire Opals and Diamonds, and with abundant South Sea Pearl jewelry coming from next door.

To browse the Moi Moi web site, you too can drool over their truly unique collections of moissanite rings, earrings, bracelets, and pendants set in 18K and 14K gold or platinum pieces of "modern art", that will wear a lifetime. Prices for most pieces range from around $2,000.00 to $10,000.00, but everything would be completely unaffordable if comparably sized diamonds of top quality were used instead.

As part of their marketing campaign, they have produced short video infomercials to inform customers about their moissanite collections. Seen below is a high quality production that features Ms. Lauren Chang, Managing Director, as she presents her excitement in offering their unique line of jewelry, along with a strong value proposition for the shopping experience at Moi Moi. These young businesswomen have also produced local television spots and interviews that advertise their business. They also regularly promote the use of Aussie celebrities, and they get great media coverage at local society weddings and fashion shows, where their moissanite jewelry is worn and gets prominent mention in the press. This video is one in a series that allows the viewer to get a good look at moissanite, and to learn more about moissanite. That’s correct, folks you can now find just about anything – including product scams and ripoffs. This particular EBay scam involves dubious "merchants" who have emerged on EBay during the recent 2006 holiday season selling jewelry they call "simulated moissanite". Since they are not offering Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite, we’ve dubbed their jewelry -- "MoissaNot". Unfortunately these EBay merchants deceive would be "bargain hunters" and unwitting consumers, in order to cash in on the popularity of Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. Their major sales appeal is usually price over quality. However upon closer inspection we found their advertising claims to be deceptive, contradictory, and outright false. Here's one example:

One such MoissaNot Ebay seller gabriyel2000, makes the following outrageous advertising claims:

"I did some research, and indeed Charles and Colvard [is] not the only company who makes moissanites. However, they are the only ones who give certificates, hence their steep price. This is a synthetic (simulation) moissanite by Hamptons for Hollywood based in New York. I got this information from the seller of this ring. I believe this is a nice alternative to C&C moissanite since the stone has the same physical characteristics as their moissanites. The ring by itself is perfect and worn twice, it's just that I received it as a gift and decided not to keep it. Hope this helps."
There is additional drivel contained throughout his EBay listing. His claims are blatantly false. Charles & Colvard has patents in 28 countries and is the sole worldwide source of moissanite. Second, the seller's claim about the composition of the jewelry containing moissanite particulates from India contradicts another EBay seller who claims the jewels are sapphires bonded with cubic zirconia (CZ). Both claims are ridiculous. In addition, gabriyel2000 provides no product photos that would allow potential buyers to see for themselves whether his MoissaNot jewelry even comes close to resembling the superior fire, luster, and brilliance that is unique to a Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. Third, gabriyel2000 utilizes the jeweler Diamonds Nexus Labs in this scam, by referring to their false advertising as a source for his EBay ad. And here’s conclusive evidence that gabriyel2000 is trying to sell counterfeit moissanite jewelry. As a result of our strenuous research, we could not find any information about the item’s manufacturer “Hamptons for Hollywood”. They simply do not exist. We checked both Google and the Superpages.com directory for a New York City or national listing and it came up empty. We sent an email inquiry to gabriyel2000, asking him to provide us with the address and phone number for “Hamptons for Hollywood”. He has yet to respond to our request, despite his claims to provide prompt answers to questions.

Diamond Nexus Labs also runs deceptive online ads that target buyers in search of moissanite, in order to bait and switch customers into buying their cheap CZ simulants instead. They are also the same corrupt outfit that employed writer Tammy Powley of The Jewelry Weblog. Ms. Powley cites DNL as her source of research, in a series of malicious articles that disparage Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. Moissanite is fast becoming a hugely successful new category of fine jewelry with growing consumer demand. Consumer awareness also continues to increase, especially through online research methods. So it’s not too surprising to find these cunning new opportunists that come out of the woodwork to take advantage, by creating misinformation and outright product scams upon a public that is very motivated to acquire moissanite jewelry. Fortunately there are many quality retailers available that offer consumers the highest quality and most stunning moissanite jewelry, and they’re easy for the buyer to find. Visit Charles & Colvard's website for a worldwide list of selected retailers.

Remember that moissanite jewels crafted into jewelry comes from only one source -- Charles & Colvard. A reputable jeweler will sell you Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite along with its Charles & Colvard Certificate of Authenticity. This is how you’ll know that you are buying real moissanite. Anything else is a MoissaNot.

Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

Rave Reviews on Moissanite From HSN

We found many enthusiastic testimonials for moissanite, while browsing the HSN website. She absolutely loves it!!! I could not believe the sparkle in her eyes when I gave it to her at dinner. Had not seen that look since I proposed to her many years ago. All her friends are drooling and in awe of her new ring. Before giving it to her, I took it to a Jeweler friend for his honest opinion. He was absolutely shocked, impressed, and speechless having never seen a Mossanite Stone. He was aware the stone exist on the market but his knowledge was strictly from jeweler literature; all reviews favorable but guarded due to its newness. After looking at the ring, he could not believe the brilliance, sparkle and reflective power of the stones. He did an in-store test for a diamond and it registered as such. I could not be happier with the ring and my wife is still on Cloud 9. Needless to say, when she is happy, so am I!!! Rather than provide accurate information to readers and jewelry shoppers who want an honest comparison between these 3 popular jewels, she diminishes moissanite as being merely another “diamond simulant” in the marketplace. Ms. Renee falsely links moissanite to the quality level of cubic zirconia (CZ), and she dismisses moissanite's many superior qualities in her inaccurate comparison of it to diamonds.
Ms. Renee doesn't try to disguise her enthusiastic promotion of diamonds. She starts her article with the following remark:

"Diamonds are known for their sparkle and brilliance making them popular in jewelry as their shine is unmatched by any other gemstone."

But here are the facts that prove this statement to be false. A quick look at the jewel elements comparison chart (shown below) is available on Charles & Colvard's company web site. This same chart is also widely displayed on the web sites of top moissanite retailers throughout the Internet and in print. As a near-colorless jewel, moissanite has more brilliance, luster, and 2½ times the fire than diamonds, and it leaves all other gemstones in the dust. Therefore Ms. Renee's claim that “[a diamond's] shine is unmatched by any other gemstone”, is completely absurd by any optical measures.

<comparison></comparison>

Ms. Renee continues her mischaracterization of moissanite in her article:

"Cubic zirconia and moissanite are two of these that are popular in jewelry. Both are diamond simulants meaning non-diamond materials are used to create them and simulate the properties of a real diamond."

The aim of Ms. Renee's belittlement of moissanite is to merge and confuse the image of this fine jewel with that of CZ, an established fashion jewelry diamond simulant. Moissanite is not a diamond simulant. Instead moissanite has been designated as a unique gemstone with it's own category in fine jewelry, and it is widely acknowledged to possess the most desirable properties that out perform all other jewels. The picture below illustrates the physical and optical differences between moissanite, diamond, and CZ. It is clear that CZ is a diamond simulant. You can clearly see how moissanite's properties exceed a diamond in the 4C's measurements that are traditionally used by buyers to evaluate fine jewelry. See the light for yourself.

<show></show>

Then Ms. Renee contradicts her earlier assertion of diamond's superiorities, with the following remark:

"Moissanites[sic] are more refractive than diamonds meaning they shine more brilliantly making this one of the easiest ways to tell it is not a diamond."

While not admitting that moissanite exceeds diamonds in brilliance and luster, Ms. Renee's comments are obviously meant to leave a negative conclusion. Experienced diamond jewelers have been unable to distinguish between moissanite from the best quality diamonds (ideal cut, few inclusions, near-colorless) that are put before their “expert” eyes. The positive identification of moissanite requires the use of special testers to tell the difference, but moissanite appearance is more beautiful than diamonds.

On the topic of hardness Ms. Renee suggests the following:

"Because of their hardness, diamonds are also used to cut and wear away other substances and are used for industrial purposes in drills, saws and engraving tools. ... A moissanite is not as hard as a diamond but is harder than a cubic zirconia and it weighs less than a CZ."

Ms. Renee ignores the durability of moissanite. While not as hard as a diamond, moissanite is second to diamonds in hardness, and so hard that it is used as anvils by MIT. In addition Ms. Renee does not inform her readers that moissanite is more resistant to heat than diamonds. This is certainly another plus for buyers, when it comes to setting or re-setting their stones into jewelry pieces.

In her closing, Ms. Renee is determined to maintain her false association of moissanite with CZ to also leave the reader with a false impression of diamond's superiority.

"Both cubic zirconia and moissanite have a close visual resemblance to diamonds – they offer the luster and fire of diamonds while being mostly colorless and can be cut in the same shapes as diamonds. In jewelry making cubic zirconia and moissanite are not as popular so they are harder to find in specific cuts and are not regularly found in jewelry stores or traditional online jewelry sellers."

Moissanite is a fine jewel having luster and fire that exceeds all jewels and any association to CZ is at best, ignorance, and otherwise slanderous. Ms. Renee comes from a family of diamond jewelers with 50 years of experience in the diamond business. She misuses her professional standing and her bias toward diamond jewelry to write an article mischaracterizing moissanite to an unwitting public. From her comments, Ms. Renee will be surprised to find that moissanite is offered by fine jewelry retailers across the country and around the world and by 4,000 independent jewelers.

Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

Charles & Colvard Presents Moissanite

This week, Charles & Colvard, Ltd. Moissanite supersedes these precious gemstones in beauty and ranks only second in hardness to diamonds. Yet, moissanite is extremely tough and resistant to breaking that it is used as anvils by research institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Why is moissanite so captivating and creating such excitement? Moissanite has 2½ times the fire of a diamond (see below) and looks like what most people imagine a diamond to look like. This is why moissanite is often mischaracterized as a “diamond simulant” by those unfamiliar with the jewel.

Market Penetration

Since diamonds have traditionally been associated with gift giving, Charles & Colvard “initially” targeted the self purchasing woman segment to gain entry for moissanite into the jewelry market. During the 2006 holiday season, Charles & Colvard seemed to be broadening their marketing message.

Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite as of 2005 represents only 0.3% of the U.S Fine Jewelry market having 8% awareness. Clearly, Charles & Colvard has plenty room for growth in the $40 billion jewelry market. Mr. Thomas conveyed confidence that Charles & Colvard will eventually achieve 1% of the market totaling well over $300 million.

The demographics of the typical moissanite purchaser based on information complied from Charles & Colvard warranty cards is a woman over 35 purchasing a 1 to 2 caret stone costing between $500.00 to $1000.00.

Jewelry buyers purchase a single piece of moissanite jewelry for an average price of $800.00. Retailers are obtaining greater margins selling moissanite jewelry. In contrast, the average purchase of a piece of diamond jewelry at a major retailer like Zale is only $400.00 yielding much lower margins for retailers.

This means that once customers see moissanite and become aware of its overall value, they are willing to spend more for moissanite than they are for diamonds and become repeat buyers of moissanite jewelry.

Distribution

While Charles & Colvard have outstanding retailer partners, Charles & Colvard does not sell moissanite jewelry to retailers. Charles & Colvard is a suppler of finished moissanite jewels that they market to jewelry manufactures. The jewelry manufacturer fashions moissanite into various styles of jewelry that is then sold to retailers.

For the past three years, Charles & Colvard relied heavily on K&G Creations and Reeves Park for the majority of their business. In 2006, Charles & Colvard added Samuel Aaron International and Alarama Jewelry Inc to their roster of jewelry manufacturers.

Samuel Aaron and Alarama brings years of jewelry manufacturing experience to moissanite. Both are producers of diamond jewelry for major retailers that are now supplying their retail clients with moissanite jewelry. This is a significant penetration for Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite into established jewelers as Charles & Colvard’s other two primary jewelers, K&G Creations and Reeves Park, are exclusive manufacturers of moissanite jewelry.

In addition, management announced that Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite is currently testing at 22 locations of the 900 Sears store chain. This has huge potential for continuing the company's growth and moissanite's penetration.

Charles & Colvard expanded the availability of moissanite into several Zale branded stores. Moissanite is now offered in 3 locations of the 300 Gordon’s Jewelers, 41 locations of the 168 Peoples Jewelers in Canada, and 20 out of 105 Zale’s Outlet locations.

Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite added Kohl’s to the illustrious list of retailers during the 2006 holiday season via their partnership with Samuel Aaron and Alarama.

Moissanite can also be purchased via the home shopping channels. In 2006 Charles & Colvard added HSN to the list of TV shopping channels offering moissanite. Moissanite is also available on ShopNBC.

Finally during 2006, Charles & Colvard had enormous success expanding moissanite offerings internationally and moissanite is also available from over 4000 independent jewelers.

Recap

Her article entitled "Faux Real?" provides further confirmation that awareness of moissanite jewelry is spreading, and furthermore those who are enlightened are very appreciative that moissanite is indeed for real. Her article also provides an excellent synopsis of moissanite's history and ethical origins, superior qualities (the 4C's), and it's strong value proposition for affordable luxury in fine jewelry. It would appear that 2007 will be "The Year of Moissanite Recognition", as we see more articles like Ms. Stout's appearing to tell the story and spread the buzz....
Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

The Moissanite Partnership: Charles & Colvard and J C Penney

During the 2006 holiday shopping season, Charles & Colvard and one of their major retail partners J C Penney, really stepped up their moissanite advertising. This new holiday ad campaign was beautifully executed, and it targeted the luxury gift-giving consumer of high-end Fine Jewelry.

This campaign featured a series of similar ad text and layouts, that showed off heart-stopping varieties of stunning moissanite jewelry pieces. It appeared weekly as full color, full page advertisements in USA Today, and it continued in National inserts of Parade Magazine within Sunday newspapers.

Note that the messaging of this campaign is somewhat of a departure form their typical marketing message, that's designed to primarily appeal to self-purchasing women. This newer ad brings more diversity to their overall marketing message. This sophistication is sure to broaden the appeal of moissanite to more segments of a huge and growing market of consumers who are searching for exactly what moissanite has to offer.

It starts with smarter advertising that grows consumer awareness that moissanite is indeed the perfect new jewel for today's J C Penney customer. J C Penney's stellar revenue results show that they are capitalizing on the increasing shopper traffic and sales that comes from their prominent in-store marketing of Moissanite. Moissanite has become today's hottest fine jewelry choice in the marketplace.

Whether purchased for the self-purchasing women, or by their loving partners who are searching for the perfect gift, or by savvy Brides and enlightened couples who are getting engaged, and anyone else who can understand and appreciate the value proposition of this affordable luxury of jewel that is truly in a fine jewelry category all by itself. J C Penney and other top retailers have embraced moissanite because it performs for their customers in ways that have been getting Industry attention for the past several years.

J C Penney has just reported that their Internet sales posted a 15.2% increase in sales, which was much higher overall than their same store sales results. When you visit their web site, you'll find that moissanite has a very robust presence with cross-marketing between their Bridal and Fine Jewelry categories online.
Copy from the ad reads:

This holiday, give the jewelry that's as unique as your love. Last month The Motley Fool published an article entitled “Get Ready for the Bounce”, that ponders whether Charles & Colvard's (NASDAQ:CTHR) stock price has bottomed and is about to reverse. The stock got hammered in 2006. It fell from $16.03 at the start of the year to finish the year at $8.00. Investors fled the stock last year because Charles & Colvard reported declining growth rates in 2006 after growing 82% in 2005.

Articles that attempt to report on the stock price decline tend to focus on Charles & Colvard's failure to meet their investors' grandiose growth expectations. The December 2005 mid-quarter conference call triggered the sell off, but the company also missed reasonable revenue expectations in the first and third quarters of 2006, which sent the price of the stock lower. Unfortunately these articles fail to identify the main reason for the revenue growth decline. Actually, the decline resulted from diminished orders from a major direct customer of Charles & Colvard -- K&G Creations.

K&G Creations is a major supplier of Moissanite Jewelry to Finlay Fine Jewelry. Finlay had operated the licensed jewelry counters for the May Corporation department store chain. However in 2005, Federated Department Stores purchased May and renamed the May branded stores to Macy’s. The resulting consolidation reduced the total number of doors serviced by Finlay by approximately 25%.

This reduction caused a surplus of inventory that Finlay had to redistribute among their remaining counters. It also circumvented Finlay's ability to replenish existing stock with new orders. The resulting domino effect of Finlay's surplus inventory caused K&G Creations to dramatically reduce their direct orders from Charles & Colvard in 2006.

Not only is this important aspect missing in these reports, but the addition of Samuel Aaron International in the second quarter of 2006 as a new direct customer of Charles & Colvard is completely overlooked. Samuel Aaron is a major jewelry manufacturer that supplies major retailers worldwide, and is the major suppler of moissanite jewelry to Kohl's Department Stores. Samuel Aaron offers 50 years of established success, and they're delivering acceptance of moissanite to the rest of the Jewelry Industry.

Despite Charles & Colvard reporting only 7% revenue growth in 3Q2006, the quarter was the largest revenue quarter in its history. Clearly, Charles & Colvard would not have been able to set a new record, considering K&G Creation diminished orders, without the addition of Samuel Aaron.

Prior to the addition of Samuel Aaron, Charles & Colvard relied heavily on their two major direct customers, K&G Creations and Reeves Park. Having gained Samuel Aaron enables Charles & Colvard to weather inventory vagaries among their direct customers.

Despite a difficult year, 2006 was also transitional for Charles & Colvard. They were still able to increase their distribution channels despite encountering the major setback in expected revenue. Going into 2007, Charles & Colvard should have smoother quarterly revenue comparatives, and they also expect to add other major retailers.

The Motley Fool article is fair, and it offers both pros and cons going forward. To my surprise, their article quotes my own analysis that provided a supportive outlook for the company. Before taking any investment position in Charles & Colvard, I recommend that you do thorough due diligence.

Thanks,
WB

Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

Moissanite Rings in the New Year!

Every year on January 1st, the Washington Post publishes an exclusive list of selected trends that are either "in" or "out" for the new year. Astonishingly, there is even less information about moissanite in this installment that she describes as having additional research.

Having a background in beads and crystal craft jewelry, Ms, Powley seems incapable to provide an honest and well researched commentary about moissanite. Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite is offered to the public by leading national retailers as fine jewlery. The jewelry Ms. Powley cynically promotes under the banner "More on Moissanite" is cubic zirconia (CZ) derived jewelry produced by Diamond Nexus Labs.

Problems with Diamond Nexus Labs

Diamond Nexus Labs (DNL) is an online outfit that produces and sells CZ jewelry as diamond simulants. Unfortunately, DNL unethically markets their CZ derived products by purchasing a top Google search result placement for the moissanite keyword. This is an unscrupulous bait and switch designed to misdirect interested moissanite customers via their sponsored link labeled “Problems With Moissanite”. The link jumps to an article posted on their website that makes several false and misleading claims about Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite entitled “Trouble With Moissanite”.

First, the article makes the claims that DNL products are a better diamond simulant than moissanite. This claim is flatly incorrect because Charles & Colvard neither markets nor do they offer moissanite as a diamond simulant. Moissanite is a unique and new category of fine jewelry that exceeds diamonds in the 4C's criteria long established by the Fine Jewelry Industry and thus moissanite cannot be described a diamond simulant.

Second, the information provided in the undated article is obsolete as it was written circa 2000. The clue as to the approximate date of the article's authorship is revealed by this paragraph:

"Since moissanite burst upon the scene in the late 90s, it has created quite a stir. Moissanite is gem-quality silicon carbide. The production of moissanite is a proprietary process and it is available only from C3 Inc, a division of Cree Research."

Only someone quite knowledgeable of Charles & Colvard's history would notice this. The original name of Charles & Colvard was C3 Inc during the very early stages of the company's development. However, the company changed its name from C3, Inc to Charles & Colvard in 1999. Therefore the approximate date of authorship was prior to the year 2000. However a newcomer to moissanite, unfamiliar with the company's history, could easily miss that revealing phrase. You have to question the veracity of an outfit that has to withhold information and resort to misrepresentation to sell their products.

Bait and Switch

Rather than respect their customers by advertising the merits of their products like many other reputable CZ merchants, DNL chooses to market their product by using questionable bait-and-switch and disparagement tactics. Preposterously, using DNL as her main source for additional research about moissanite, all Ms. Powley “discovered” was how she too can bait and switch her readers.

Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel

The Jewelry Weblog: Craft or Graft?

Tammy Powley, who authors The Jewelry Weblog recently wrote an article on her blog entitled "Moissanite: Gem or Gyp?" Yes, the title is a negative and inflammatory statement rather than a legitimate question, but that was the writer’s true intention. Her article is bereft of any journalistic integrity or basic research about the subject of Moissanite, and it attempts to disguise her obvious disdain for Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite, and for the company itself. Her masquerade of “factual” statements, are really slanderous inferences and outright fallacious accusations about Charles & Colvard. Charles & Colvard is the sole worldwide supplier of this fabulous jewel.

As she describes on her blog, her background is limited to crafting costume jewelry (crystal and glass beads), and she’s written assorted chronicle pieces for various jewelry interests. Apparently this leads her to believe that her writings are somehow qualified to influence public opinion on this subject, despite the public’s increasing demand for Moissanite in the Fine Jewelry Department showcases of top National and International Jewelry Retailers.

Predictably, the mendacity doesn’t stop at the sarcastic title. She opens her article with the following false dichotomy:

"Moissanite is a new up and coming star in the world of gemstone jewelry, but actually, it is not a gem at all. It is a lab created crystal."

She’s only correct in that Moissanite is indeed a new, up and coming “star” in the world of gemstone jewelry. However her usage is intended to implant into her readers the false notion that that as a crystal, Moissanite is substandard to being a “gemstone”. In actuality, a crystal is merely an orderly arrangement of atoms and molecules, while a gemstone is a mineral or stone that can be faceted into jewelry. By these definitions, a diamond, cubic zirconia and moissanite are all crystals that qualify as being gems. Even the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) considers moissanite to be a laboratory-created gemstone.

Later in the article, Ms. Powley includes an irrelevant issue to support her disparagement of moissanite -- the decline of Charles & Colvard's (CTHR) stock price. This is a deliberate use of a “red herring” by Ms. Powley, to associate the stock price decline as a reflection of the quality of Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite. The fact is that the company's revenue growth declined this year resulting in a sell off after growing a whopping 82% in 2005.

Mrs. Barber and I posted rebuttals to Ms. Powley's article on her site. Her response to my rebuttal was cynical and dismissive. She writes:

Wilson - Wow! Time to take a little nap or something. Honestly, I did do a little more research and plan to follow up this initial article with some interesting stuff I found over at [Diamond Nexus Labs].

Apparently consumer awareness or vigilant research are not required traits to be appreciated by Ms. Powley who would prefer that no one expose her obviously biased and slanted reporting on moissanite.

Included in our rebuttals we named the major national retailers offering moissanite. With full knowledge that moissanite is marketed and sold directly to the public, from such top national retailers, Ms. Powley offers this absurd rejoinder:

Yes, I did see that [moissanite] is sold at lots of places [major national retailers], but so what? Are you suggesting that this gives [moissanite] some kind of legitimacy?

The legitimacy of moissanite jewelry being marketed and sold with the highest integrity and exactly as promised, by both its creator Charles and Colvard, and by a growing list of top retailers is not merely being “suggested” to readers by me or Mrs. Barber but by major players in the Jewelry Industry such as Ms. Beryl Raff, the Executive VP at J C Penney, who was instrumental introducing Charles and Colvard Created Moissanite to J C Penney as a breakthrough new category of fine jewelry, in 2004.

Then Ms. Powley admits that she has purchased lab-created gems for herself:

I actually personally own a number of lab created gems, and I enjoy wearing them.

Duplicitously, Ms. Powley wears a number of lab-created gems – just not moissanite. But wait it gets better...

However, I got them knowing that they were not naturally created, and I felt from the text on the site I quoted that this is not necessarily the case with this "jewel" as the manufacturers call it.

Ms. Powley, response implies that Charles & Colvard is deliberately deceiving their many buyers of Moissanite, by not disclosing or by hiding its manufacture and by extension accuses top national retailers, and multitudes of other independent jewelers worldwide of deceiving their customers.

Her response is pure deceit. As you see in her comments, Ms. Powley states that she has visited the Charles & Colvard website. For her blog article’s cover photo, she’s captured the Charles & Colvard web site’s image of their model wearing a fabulous moissanite necklace. However every page on the Charles & Colvard website features their logo which reads "Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite". Can you say BUSTED?

After reading Ms. Powley's bio you have to wonder why she chose to write about moissanite and Charles & Colvard having what appears to be little or no knowledge about fine jewelry. All she posses is a background in craft jewelry yet she has the audacity to patronize the business strategy of such successful companies like J C Penney, Macy's, Kohl's, Helzberg Diamonds, and Zale that offer moissanite as fine jewelry. In fact J C Penney named Charles & Colvard their 2005 Vendor of the Year.

Perhaps the rhetorical title of this article is not rhetorical at all but a very legitimate question to explore.

Thanks,
WB & Colvard created Moissanite is now offered by an expanding number of major national retailers and jewelry chains. In 2005, J C Penney expanded its offering to all of their 700-plus stores.
Also in 2005, Finlay Fine Jewelry started to offer moissanite through their licensed outlets. If you are not familiar with Finlay, they operate licensed jewelry counters for major retailers. For most of their history, they operated licensed counters for the May Corporation chain of department stores. In 2005 Federated Department Stores, who owns Macy’s merged with May and decided to consolidate the May brands under the Macy’s moniker.

In the summer of 2005, Gordon’s Jewelers, a division of Zale Corporation started testing moissanite and late in 2005, Helzberg Diamonds, a division of Berkshire Hathaway began offering moissanite at 40 of its locations.

In 2006, Charles & Colvard continued to expanded moissanite distribution into all of Helzberg Diamonds 275 doors and in forth quarter of this year rolled out into 180 doors of the 800-door chain of Kohl’s department stores.

While progress at Zale appears modest, Charles & Colvard succeeded expanding moissanite availability at 20 Zales Outlet stores, 41 doors of Peoples (Zale Canada), and 3 Gordon’s Jewelry stores – the significance of which signals that the year long testing at Gordon’s appears to have been successful as rollout is commencing.

Having these major retailers and jewelry chains offer moissanite confirms its acceptance in the jewelry industry as a separate category font-weight: bold;">Moissanite, created by Charles & Colvard, Ltd. It's been nearly a decade since its introduction with tremendous acceptance by top jewelers worldwide. Moissanite is now gaining in customer demand, with ever-growing awareness since its breakthrough offering by J C Penney in late 2004. Go to http://www.moissanite.com for much more information about where to find a huge variety of stunning moissanite fine jewelry designs now offered at retailers almost everywhere.

Moissanite exceeds all jewels using the criteria long established by the Fine Jewelry Industry, when evaluating a gemstone for purchase using the standard "4Cs". The 4Cs refers to the gradation rating of a gemstone's unique color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Moissanite is always a near-colorless (H-I), ideal-cut (by hand), VS or VVS clarity jewel that has much more fire, brilliance, and sparkle than a diamond, but for a fraction of the cost. Because of these special traits and the value-proposition to the consumer, moissanite is causing a major disruption in the Jewelry Industry. Unlike mined diamonds, Moissanite has a history of origin from meteor particles which are truly rare, yet it is produced with the scientific technology that guarantees perfection that will last forever. It also as durable as a diamond and resists chipping or breakage.

Because of moissanite's recent designation as a new Category of Fine Jewelry within the Jewelry Industry, it is being subjected to a relentless campaign of misinformation and disparagement efforts. For the past several years, these efforts were primarily confined to the company's stock message boards. The reason the stocks' message boards were targeted, is that Charles & Colvard, Ltd. is a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq with the ticker symbol CTHR. As moissanite's popularity and awareness has increased, these misinformation campaigns are starting to spread through multiple channels on the Internet.

As a delighted owner of moissanite jewelry and an investor in Charles & Colvard, the purpose of this blog will be to provide corrections to the misinformation, and to share factual information about Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and the company.

Thanks,
WB

Moissanite Awareness: To help readers become familiar with Charles & Colvard Created Moissanite and be a respite from the misinformation of this fabulous new jewel
